Waste Management Apprenticeships: How We’re Building Jobs at Tom White

,

23/03/26

At Tom White, we don’t just offer our team jobs; we offer them career paths. Many see the waste and recycling industry as purely operational, but we see it as a landscape of opportunities. That’s why we invest in a range of waste management apprenticeships for our employees.

Currently, our team members are enrolled in a diverse range of training programs, ranging from Level 3 Team Leader qualifications to Level 7 Strategic Leadership degrees. By investing in our people, we ensure that our standards of safety, sustainability, and service are led by those who know the business best - and set our team members up for a lifelong career in waste management.

Our internal promotion and development culture is best seen through the eyes of the people currently balancing their daily roles with advanced qualifications.

The Next Generation of Management

Transitioning into a leadership role requires the development of a new set of skills. Rich (Transport Planner), Aaron (Customer Success Supervisor), and Patrycja (Team Leader) are all currently working toward their Level 3 Team Leader apprenticeships.

Shaping the Future: Strategic Leadership

Waste management apprenticeships at Tom White aren't just for entry-level roles. Leanne (Sales Manager) and Pawel (Plant Manager) are both undertaking Level 7 Strategic Leader qualifications, the equivalent of a Master’s degree.

Leanne is using her studies to refine her decision-making and lead her sales team through business growth, while Pawel is focused on site culture and operational reviews. As Pawel puts it: "Apprenticeships allow us to develop and shape our people’s mindset, enabling the business to be more successful."
